Cordless table lamps have become standard equipment in restaurants, wine bars and hotel terraces. They put a warm pool of light on every table without floor sockets, extension leads or rewiring — and they can be collected, charged and set out again in minutes. But not every rechargeable lamp suits daily commercial use. This guide covers what to check before you choose a model for your venue or your restaurant-supply catalogue.
1. Start with the light, not the lamp
Guests notice light before they notice design. For dining, look for:
- Warm colour temperature. Warm white flatters food and faces. Many current models offer three colour temperatures (for example warm, neutral and cool white) so the same lamp works in a candle-lit dining room and a brighter café.
- Stepless or multi-level dimming. Being able to turn brightness down is what makes a lamp feel like ambience rather than task lighting. Most of our restaurant & bistro lamps combine three colour temperatures with stepless dimming.
- Low glare. A diffuser under a disc or shade head directs light down onto the table instead of into diners’ eyes. Slim disc-top designs such as the Bistro Aluminium lamp are popular for exactly this reason.
2. Choose a size that fits the table
Table lamps compete with plates, glasses and menus. As a rule of thumb:
| Table type | What works | Typical style |
|---|---|---|
| Two-person tables, bar counters | Small footprint, under about 12 cm wide | Slim column, mini mushroom |
| Four-person tables | Medium height (roughly 25–30 cm) so light falls on the table centre | Bistro disc-top, tapered shade |
| Communal and terrace tables | Taller lamps or several smaller lamps along the table | Tall tapered shade, lanterns |
Always check the exact dimensions for the model you are quoting — sizes are listed on each product page, and confirmed in writing with your quotation.
3. Materials that survive service
Restaurant lamps are picked up, wiped down and moved many times a day.
- Aluminium and iron bodies with powder-coated, plated or anodised finishes are the most common choice for commercial use.
- Acrylic diffusers are lighter and less fragile than glass for busy floors.
- Glass and fabric designs suit quieter spaces such as hotel lounges and fine-dining rooms where staff handle lamps carefully.
If the lamps will go outside, ask specifically about the model’s suitability for outdoor or covered-terrace use. Do not assume a lamp is weather-resistant unless the supplier provides a tested IP rating for that exact model.
4. Plan the charging routine
Battery capacity, runtime and charging method vary by model and by configuration (for example, the same design may be offered with different battery sizes). Before you order:
- Ask for the confirmed runtime at the brightness you will actually use, not only the maximum figure.
- Check the charging method — individual cables, charging bases or multi-lamp charging solutions — and how long a full charge takes.
- Work out how many lamps you need to cover your longest service, and whether staff will rotate spare lamps.
We provide confirmed battery and runtime figures per model with every quotation, so the numbers you share with your own customers are accurate.
5. Compliance documents for your market
Rechargeable lamps contain lithium batteries and electronics, so your importer will usually need documents such as CE (EU), UKCA (Great Britain) or FCC (USA) test reports, RoHS and REACH declarations, and a UN38.3 test summary for shipping the batteries. Requirements depend on your market and sales channel — tell us where the lamps will be sold and we will confirm which reports apply to the exact model before you order.
6. Make it yours: colours, logo and packaging
For restaurant groups and hospitality suppliers, branding is often the deciding factor:
- Custom colours to match an interior scheme or brand palette
- Logo on the base or body
- Packaging — plain export cartons for venues, or gift boxes for resale
